STATE BOARDING SCHOOLS - From 7 to 18 years of age.
The State school system, is maintained and financed by central Government or local education authority.
There are currently 38 state boarding schools in the UK and places are open to all members of European Union.
Some are very demanding academically and produce similar results to the top public schools.
Not all the state schools are selective, in some cases, students may have to sit entry exams in maths, English and Science and some schools require verbal and non-verbal reasoning, along with an interview.
Most are predominantly day with a small number of boarders and most of these boarders are international students.
Schools are mainly co-educational and some are for only boys.
